The following FAQ's represent a combination of questions and concerns typically expressed by homeowners during consultations and the estimation process. We are always interested in answering questions and speaking to your concerns by phone or in person--our phone contact can be found above and/or you can submit queries and comments via email by visiting our Contact Us page.
Pricing for seamless aluminum eavestroughing is per linear foot, though there is currently no set linear foot price. Price will vary based on a number of architectural elements (Does a durable face board exist?, Does the face include a decorative crown, which would require special roof hangers?, Do sections of the eavestroughing system hang above three stories?, etc.), color availablity (Is the homeowner interested in special order colors and components?), and stock aluminum thickness and size. As such, homeowners will need to speak with Mr. Tenney on site for a review of these circumstances and pricing.
We haul our seamless machine, fabrication and installation tools, components, and aluminum stock coils by trailer. The coils are loaded onto the machine, which is powered by generator, and extruded to any length, on site. Where inside/outside corners and/or bay corners exist, gutter pieces are joined by box or strip corners, fastened by stainless zip screws (color matched) and thoroughly sealed. See below:
Correctly installed eavestroughing--properly pitched to each downspout, with an adequate number of strategically placed downspouts--should not overflow. If previous installers failed to provide a strong enough pitch toward downspouts or have not included a sufficient number of spouts to withstand heavy rains, overflow can occur. Additionally, if your current eavestroughing does not include a working leaf protection system, your gutters could be plugged with debris. Your system should be thoroughly investigated and serviced.
If your eavestroughing is not damaged and/or pulling away from the face board, water running behind pieces of gutter usually indicates a need for additional "flashing" (stock aluminum fastened over the back top flange of the gutter, underneath the roof drip edge). If the need for flashing at low points in your system have been ignored, water will not properly shed into the eavestrough.
Eavestroughing is not installed level. Each piece must be pitched at an industry standard toward downspouts to direct the flow of water. If the face boards to which we are attaching our system are relatively level, you will only notice a slight run toward downspout locations. However, if the face board is not level (sometimes they may fall away from the necessary location of downspouts), the standard pitch will be amplified. To avoid this cosmetic problem, downspouts should be placed strategically and pieces over 45 ft. should generally have more than one spout.
You do not need to acquire any materials. Currently, we install Mastic brand vinyl siding products. Their materials are of exceptional quality, they offer a variety of styles, colors and custom components, and are priced competitively. We do not mark up material costs for additional profit. Please feel free to click the Mastic.com link below for additional information.
Buckling, twisting, and "oil-canning", as well as random panels unlocking, is a sign of improper installation. Vinyl products experience expansion and contraction during climatic change and must be installed to allow for associated movement. Vinyl panels cannot be nailed too tightly and must have room to expand and move at corners and other fixed objects. Otherwise, the above indications occur and panels will become unlocked during expansion.
Mr. Tenney consults with homeowners on site and provides no-obligation project estimates free of charge. Consultations are generally scheduled during weekday evenings, though accomodations can be made.
We will be happy to refer you to past customers who can attest to the superior quality of our work as well as our professionalism.
Mr. Tenney is a long-standing and active member of the Battle Creek Association of Home Builders and positive refernces will be made available by contacting the association office via the link at the botom of this page.
